Congratulations to Haub Law’s Estrella Mock Trial Team on their recent success! The student team finished in the top 4 of the Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition. This year’s team members included Miy Mahran, Dounea Elbroji, Kiefer Campbell, and Rashad Mujumder. The team was coached by Jordan Montoya and Angelica Cancel, both 2017 Haub Law graduates and former members of the Executive Board of the Advocacy Program while in law school.

Coaches Jordan Montoya and Angelica Cancel spent roughly two months with the student team assisting them in crafting their litigation strategy for the competition. The team also had assistance from the "shadow" team students made up of Adam Thomas, Melissa Nelson, and Michael Thompson, who assisted in preparing the team. In the first round, the team faced University of Virginia Law School and won. In the second round the team faced the University of Michigan Law School and won again. This propelled them into the semifinal against George Washington School of Law.

Miy Mahran, a student member of the mock trial team, speaks highly of the experience, “It was a great experience with an amazing group of team members. Our coaches were great and really pushed us to succeed. They met with us often and were always available if we had any questions and whenever we were doubting ourselves. As a team, we were supportive of each other and always made sure to help one another out. I know Rashad and I are ending our final year at Haub Law on a high note and we wish Dounea and Kiefer a great final year at Haub Law next year!”

Coach Jordan Montoya notes, “I believe the Advocacy program at Haub Law was vital in my development as a litigator and I enjoy giving back to the Law School community by assisting in developing the School’s future litigators. I look forward to seeing what each one of these students goes on to do with the tools, insights, and experience their participation in this competition has given them.”
